Leadership
Jacques Gevers has been a key player in the intellectual property field, joining the Gevers law firm in 1965 and carrying on a family legacy that began when the firm was founded in 1898. His leadership truly transformed the firm, particularly after the merger with the Vander Haegen firm in 1992. By 1994, under his guidance, Gevers captured 25% of the American market for Community Trademark filings by 1996, greatly expanding its global reach.
Beyond his work at Gevers, he founded Edital, which eventually became part of the Corsearch group. His entrepreneurial drive didn’t stop there; he established Valipat in 2008 and co-founded Fovea IP in 2018. Throughout his career, Gevers has made a significant impact on the intellectual property landscape, and his contributions continue to resonate in the industry today.

Harrati’s educational background is extensive and rooted in civil engineering. He earned his engineer’s degree from the University of Sciences and Technology (USTHB) between 1985 and 1990. He then pursued a post-graduate diploma in soil structure and mechanics from Centrale in 1990-1991, followed by a master’s degree in civil engineering structures from École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées in 1992. In 2006, Lagemaat founded Lighthouse IP, which quickly became a leading provider of IP data worldwide. In 2018, Lighthouse IP merged with IPSensus, leading to the establishment of Fovea IP. Today, he serves as a board member of the Fovea group while also holding the position of CEO at Lighthouse IP and VP of Sales and Marketing for Fovea IP, continuing to drive innovation in the industry.

Entering the Australia and New Zealand market in early 2023, Fovea IP Oceania, part of the worldwide Fovea IP group, is an active searching and watching company, providing the world’s most complete IP data collection, available as raw data or through a unique search and watch platform that saves time to collect, process and report IP data.
Customers can conduct their own searching and research on the platform or instruct searches and watches to its experienced analyst teams. In the world of intellectual property, Fovea IP is seen as the IP data powerhouse, helping IP professionals in corporations and law firms to perform at their best.
The Fovea IP group was created in 2018 by the merger of two main global intellectual property data suppliers, Lighthouse IP (Amsterdam) and IPSensus (Brussels), with the collaboration of several experienced IP algorithm developers, including the BCK team (Munich).
Clients have access to the most complete, proprietary data of IP rights worldwide, state-of-the-art search and watch technology and services, dedicated support and research analyst teams.
The leadership at Fovea IP has played a pivotal role in shaping the firm’s success through its vision, strategic direction and commitment to fostering a culture of innovation and accountability. Leaders at Fovea IP lead by example, setting high standards for excellence while empowering teams to contribute ideas and take ownership of projects.
Fovea IP has cultivated a strong, values-driven culture that emphasises collaboration, innovation and a commitment to excellence. The firm believes that its success stems not only from its skills and expertise but also from the way it approaches work and treats one another.
Its culture is built around key principles:
• collaboration and teamwork
• innovation and continuous learning
• integrity and accountability
• client-centric approach
Fovea IP views innovation as an evolving and dynamic process rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. At its core, innovation is about solving problems in new, meaningful ways – whether it’s optimising processes, creating novel products or services or finding better ways to engage with customers.
The firm’s ethos around innovation is shaped by three key principles:
• adaptability
• collaboration
• continuous learning
“Fovea IP provides access to worldwide IP data in one convenient and user-friendly location,” says Amanda Good, Business Development Director, Australia and New Zealand. “IP practitioners immediately save time by having high quality data at their fingertips, with user-friendly tools to aid their research. Platform tools are designed with practitioners’ workflows in mind, providing numerous analysis and reporting options to increase efficiency, saving time and money.”
Fovea IP’s approach is both forward-thinking and solution oriented. It plans to develop new solutions that address emerging challenges while delivering value to customers:
• digital transformation and AI integration
• customer-centric innovation
• cybersecurity and privacy
• future of work and remote collaboration
“We believe that effective innovation planning strikes a balance between proactive, in-house ideation and responsiveness to market needs. Our process is rooted in both foresight and adaptability, ensuring that we stay ahead of industry trends while remaining aligned with the evolving demands of the market,” says Good.

To operate optimally for clients, the firm engaged the founder of a major construction management company to be chairman. Under their guidance, Vincent Young has expanded its practice areas to include property, projects, commercial and insolvency law. Today, Vincent Young is advised by a chairman and two advisors, none of whom are lawyers, resulting in invaluable industry insight and client-side perspective.
