Unified Healthcare Group (UHG) built its business around a problem every litigation team knows well: medical evidence for a legal matter rarely sits in one place. Records scatter across hospitals, specialists and allied health providers, each with its own rules, costing law firms time better spent on casework. Founded in 1997, Melbourne-based UHG positions itself as the connective layer between the healthcare, legal and insurance sectors.
What sets UHG apart is not a single product but the combination behind it: healthcare expertise, established provider relationships, secure technology and specialist service delivery working together. Powered by the medEbrige platform, law firm's have visibility and control over a retrieval process that would otherwise run largely out of site.
Specialist teams then work directly with providers to validate and securely deliver the records once obtained. Multiple submission pathways also make it easier for providers to participate, lowering the administrative burden across the healthcare system and for firms waiting on results. UHG says the practical effect is less time spent pursuing records and more time applied to the legal work those records are meant to support.
Executive General Manager Matthew May leads UHG’s cross-functional team, spanning customer, operations, product, technology, provider engagement, governance and finance. That structure is behind UHG’s move from a straightforward retrieval service into what the company now calls a health information and decision support partner.
For the legal sector, this repositioning sharpened UHG’s focus onto the tasks firms are actually trying to complete: early matter assessment, missing-evidence identification, preparation for independent medical examinations and litigation and barrister brief preparation. Across all of them, UHG can deliver medical information in a structured, summarised form rather than as raw files.
That structured approach answers a familiar set of problems for litigation teams: records held across too many providers and systems, inconsistent fees and response times, incomplete files and radiology or hospital data that is difficult to present in a usable format. UHG’s response includes a range of tools and services to support record review, including optional AI-assisted indexing, sorting and summarisation that can help make lengthy medical records easier to navigate while preserving access to the original material.
To show these fixes are working, UHG tracks outcomes against goals agreed with each customer rather than one generic benchmark: retrieval success rate, average cycle time, completion volumes and the cost savings achieved through efficiencies.
The payoff UHG points to is consistent across those measures: faster access to evidence, clearer visibility over outstanding requests, and more lawyer time available for substantive legal work. UHG’s next phase of investment includes enhancing its suite of technology-enabled tools, including further AI-assisted document review capabilities where appropriate, alongside more automated workflows, deeper integration with provider and client platforms, and closer connectivity with legal practice management systems.
Privacy, security and quality assurance remain embedded throughout the service, combining technology-enabled processes with expert oversight to support the appropriate management of sensitive medical information.
UHG frames this direction as continuity, not departure. The same five values that guide the business – care, accountability, teamwork, integrity and excellence – now extend to a broader role. The aim is simple: less time for legal professionals spent obtaining and organising medical evidence and more time applying their expertise to outcomes that matter to clients.
Water safety for every child
For some families, where cost or access is a barrier, a school program may be the only structured swimming and water safety education their child receives, which is why Aquastar’s School Swimming and Water Safety Program goes beyond swimming lessons. Each swimmer is assessed against age- and ability-appropriate skills and receives
certificates and water safety education resources, giving schools measurable evidence of progress alongside the harder-to-measure gains in confidence and independence.
Aquastar’s commitment to children extends past the lessons themselves, with scholarships, fundraising, Giving Days and employment opportunities for young people carrying Aquastar's community focus beyond the pool.
The company's read on the future stays close to that purpose: expanding practical learn to swim and water safety, reaching more children through school partnerships, and continuing to invest in the next generation of teachers and supervisors.
Recognition in The Educator’s Service Provider Awards for 2026 reflects a business that has grown quickly while keeping its founding priorities intact – helping more children become confident, capable and safe in the water.
