Breellen Warry is a partner in the Maddocks Sydney Public Law team, where she leads the NSW state government sector. With a robust background that includes both private practice and in-house counsel roles, she has served various government agencies in New South Wales and spent over four years practicing in the UK.
As a specialist in planning and environmental law, Warry possesses significant expertise in areas such as land use and zoning laws, planning and infrastructure agreements, biodiversity conservation and offsetting, heritage laws, waste regulation and compulsory acquisition. She has been involved in some of the largest and most intricate planning agreements in NSW and has provided guidance on numerous major government projects.
Warry excels in delivering strategic and legal advice to both local and state government clients, as well as private sector entities, on significant projects. She adeptly assists clients in navigating complex planning and environmental approval processes, which include a range of developments such as mixed-use, residential, infrastructure, industrial, educational and commercial projects across NSW. Additionally, she advises on environmental compliance issues, particularly in the aftermath of pollution and contamination incidents, and offers probity advice to government clients.
As an accomplished litigator in planning and environmental law, Warry has extensive experience in the Land and Environment Court of NSW, handling complex development appeals, civil enforcement, judicial reviews and criminal matters. She has also represented clients in the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal, including in section 88K proceedings.
