Carly Ashwood is a special counsel in Cooper Grace Ward’s corporate and commercial team. She is known for her practical approach to legal challenges and her unwavering dedication to clients. With over 20 years of experience in the legal field, she has earned a reputation as a trusted adviser to businesses of all sizes. Ashwood collaborates closely with in-house counsel and professional advisers, delivering tailored legal advice that meets her clients’ unique needs. She has also been seconded multiple times as in-house counsel, giving her valuable insight into her clients’ perspectives.
Ashwood handles a diverse range of legal projects, including matters related to the Corporations Act and ASIC, governance documents, stakeholder agreements, mergers and acquisitions, restructures and business succession planning. Her expertise extends to franchising, employee share schemes, software development agreements, IP transactions, terms of trade and commercial agreements with third parties. She also represents non-bank lenders in all aspects of their facility agreements with borrowers.
Ashwood has a strong passion for supporting not-for-profit and charitable organisations. She regularly advises on their establishment and operation, leading Cooper Grace Ward’s not-for-profit and charity team and driving the firm’s pro bono initiatives. Her practical experience as a board member for two charities further enriches her understanding and commitment to this sector.
