Megan Bishop is a partner in Piper Alderman’s tax team. She works with investors, public and private groups and individuals to navigate complex tax issues, manage risk and achieve commercially successful outcomes.
Bishop advises clients on a broad range of taxation matters. Her areas of specialisation include business and group structuring, mergers and acquisitions, employment and mobility taxation, trust taxation, the research and development tax incentive and cross-border tax issues.
She has represented taxpayers in several significant restructuring and tax litigation matters. Her ability to combine technical expertise with a deep understanding of commercial drivers enables her to deliver commercially focused advice that helps clients make informed decisions in complex and often high-stakes situations.
Before commencing her legal career, she worked as a chemical engineer. This background, combined with experience gained from roles within accounting firms, in-house legal teams and private practice, and training as a mediator, provides her with a unique perspective when addressing complex business challenges.
Bishop is also actively involved in shaping Australia’s tax profession through her roles as a member of CPA Australia’s Tax Centre of Excellence and vice chair of The Tax Institute’s Engagement Committee and Law Council.
