Profile
Samantha Gou, partner at Holding Redlich, is a member of the firm's property and development team and an Accredited Specialist in property law. Her practice focuses on complex leasing, property acquisitions and disposals and property due diligence.
Over the past 15 years, she has built a strong reputation for advising on complex property transactions and helping clients navigate significant commercial and legal issues. Having always aspired to practise in property law, she has developed a career centred on delivering strategic, commercially focused advice. At Holding Redlich, she has continued to grow her practice and progress to partner.
Gou says one of the greatest challenges in her role is balancing legal risk, commercial objectives and stakeholder expectations on complex transactions. She meets that challenge through clear communication, practical solutions and a deep understanding of her clients’ broader business goals.
“My strongest professional quality is my ability to combine technical expertise with a practical, commercial approach. Clients with significant investments need advice that is both legally sound and commercially realistic,” she says.
Gou is known for identifying solutions rather than simply highlighting problems, an approach that has helped her build trusted, long-standing client relationships and become a seamless extension of her clients’ teams.
Looking across the legal profession, Gou says women can still face less visible pathways to leadership. She believes the profession is stronger when women are supported to communicate with confidence, contribute their perspectives and pursue leadership opportunities while remaining authentic.
“Women should be able to be direct, express a considered view and lead with confidence without those qualities being interpreted differently,” she says. “Mentors, sponsors and supportive colleagues play an important role in creating opportunities and encouraging women to back themselves.”
Gou sees her Elite Women recognition as an opportunity to support other women as they develop their careers. The guidance and encouragement she has received throughout her own journey have strengthened her commitment to mentoring emerging lawyers and helping create opportunities for the next generation of leaders.
Looking ahead, she hopes to contribute to a profession where leadership pathways are more visible and accessible for women.
Gou’s earlier accolades include recognition in Doyle’s Guide, Leading Leasing Lawyers – NSW and Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in Australia for Leasing Law and Real Property Law.
