“No matter how many clients I have, I make sure to call each one personally every quarter. It’s a chance to not only update them on their portfolio, but also check on how they’re doing personally”
Kelvin Rampersad,

Matthew Booth is an insurance litigation lawyer covering a wide range of areas, including acting for fire and general insurers on material damage, public liability, professional indemnity and statutory liability claims. As a senior member of Wotton + Kearney, he assists in leading a busy and high-performing team of insurance litigators and is instrumental in helping develop and train junior lawyers. He is regularly consulted by clients who recognise his outstanding technical ability, pragmatic approach and can-do attitude to achieve impressive results.
Over the years, Booth has been extensively involved in the complex issues arising out of the defective repair of homes damaged by the Christchurch earthquakes, including insurers’ responsibility for this damage and recovery against responsible builders, contractors and project managers. This has seen him appear as lead or junior counsel in numerous mediations and judicial settlement conferences, as well as hearings in the Canterbury Earthquake Insurance Tribunal, the Greater Christchurch Claims Resolution Service and the High Court.
Booth was recognised as a Rising Star in insurance in The Legal 500 Asia Pacific rankings for 2023. He was also a finalist in the Young Insurance Professional of the Year category at the 2022 Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance awards.
