“No matter how many clients I have, I make sure to call each one personally every quarter. It’s a chance to not only update them on their portfolio, but also check on how they’re doing personally”

Megan Cucerzan graduated with honours with a BA/LLB degree from the University of Auckland in 2014. She is a commercial lawyer with more than eight years of experience and has a particular interest in finding practical ways to make the law and legal services more accessible.
From 2014 to 2018, Cucerzan was a key member of Sir David Williams QC’s international arbitration practice, travelling to Oman, Singapore and London as an assistant to various tribunals. After time spent at a regtech company specialising in legal compliance programmes, then as a legislation drafter working primarily on COVID-19 and competition legislation, she has now joined the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) as a senior legal technologist and automation specialist. In this newly established role, she is part of a team focused on using technology to improve the delivery of certain government procurement services.
Former colleagues say Cucerzan “impresses senior leadership with her drive and commitment,” “has extraordinary analytical legal ability” and “is proactive and strategic in her approach to creating positive change.”
Cucerzan is involved in promoting the importance of diversity in the legal profession. She spoke on a 2021 webinar attended by various Asian law students’ associations, was on a panel about the “future of the profession” at the 2022 Government Legal Network (GLN) conference, and hopes to continue this work in partnership with GLN in the future.
